Our working partners at MNT have contacted us with some news regarding funding for a training course; are you interested? Then please contact them to find out a bit more about it:

‘MNT Training is delighted to be in a position to offer new or existing child care practitioners, SFA(Skills Funding Agency) funding for those wishing to study the CACHE Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce.

Following a partnership agreement with Newbury College, MNT Training will be able to draw on funding or part funding to support individual learners within specific areas of the South and South East of England (learners will be required to meet certain criteria in order to access the funding). In some cases this funding may well be available to child-care practitioners who ordinarily find it difficult to source other types of funding- for example nannies.

To access this funding, learners will need to enrol before the end of July this year, so it is important that potential learners contact us sooner rather than later as we cannot be sure that more funding will be available for new starters after the end of July.

For further information and to discuss the eligibility criteria please contact Paul at MNT on 0844 826 8446 or email paul@mnttraining.co.uk’

HolidayInformation Guide by Way2Paye

All nannies are entitled to holiday pay.

Holiday entitlement begins from the first day of employment but cannot be taken until it has been accrued (e.g. one day’s holiday after 13 day’s work). Part time employees are entitled to 5.6 weeks of the hours they work. Parents can agree with their nanny at the start of the employment that they take some of their holiday when they take their own annual leave.

New Holiday Legislation – The Working Time (Amendment) Regulations 2008

In brief the minimum holiday entitlement has increased from 4 weeks per year to 4.8 weeks per year from 1st October 2008 and increased again on 1st April 2009 to 5.6 weeks per year.

All employees are entitled to 5.6 weeks holiday from 1st April 2009
i.e. Employees’ that work;

1 day get 5.6 days holiday per year

2 days get 11.2 days holiday per year

3 days get 16.8 days holiday per year

4 days get 22.4 days holiday per year

5 days get 28 days holiday per year.

Whether or not this additional leave is taken on a Bank Holiday is up to individual employers to agree with their workers. Employers may choose to offer more holiday than this.

Extra Bank Holiday for the Queen’ Jubilee – 5th June 2012

Nannies are not automatically entitled to this bank holiday.

It will depend on the wording in their contract with their employer.

If parents ask for advise we inform them to check their contract. If it is not stated in the contract regarding extra bank holidays we advise them to please treat their nanny as they would like to be treated themselves.

In many cases it is down to the parent’s discretion.

Parents beware: declare now or suffer later

The decision by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) to focus its harsh glare on the nanny sector – as revealed in the national media over the weekend – will bring major changes to the way parents handle their tax affairs.

Latest Government figures suggest more than 30,000 nannies are working in England. And it believes that up to a fifth worked without making tax or National Insurance payments. The Financial Times estimates that up to £57m is being lost to the Treasury.

Leading payroll support company Nannytax today warned parents to take note of the looming crack-down, stop paying their nannies in cash or kind, and implement a proper PAYE system.

As a key partner in this field, Nannytax has been invited to join HMRC on a pilot scheme to test how RTI might work. As the leading domestic payroll provider, Nannytax is invited to join the pilot scheme; this is testament to the outstanding reputation Nannytax has in the industry.

While RTI may be successful in swelling the Treasury coffers, Nannytax is anxious that the move could push more parents and nannies over to the dark side.

Nannytax Payroll Services Director Helen Harvey, said: “The idea of encouraging greater compliance with the tax laws of the land is a sound one. However, I am anxious that it could push hundreds of law-abiding middle class families towards illegal activity due to the sheer weight of the paper-work.”

“We will be encouraging HMRC to look carefully at Real Time Information and test it thoroughly before implementing,” Helen said. “The Government would do well to look at the whole childcare system and address why some parents are resorting to tax evasion.”

Nannytax will be using its influence on the pilot scheme to push for Government guidance to be made available to parents seeking to employ a nanny.

Helen said that too many parents were still relying on internet trawls through sites such as Gumtree to find the right person to help raise their children.

“Parents who go online to find their nanny instead of using a reputable nanny agency are more likely to indulge in tax evasion by paying cash in hand,” she said. “Quality agencies offer numerous benefits including reference checking, CRB checks and educating parents on their responsibilities as an employer. This is essential work that should not be cast aside.”

However, in principal, Nannytax sees the pilot project and the desire to close down loop-holes as a sensible move, so long at is carried out with sensitivity and understanding.

Stuart Maclean, Managing Director of Nannytax, said it was vital that the major influencers in the industry continued to encourage employers to conduct their tax affairs in a law-abiding manner.

“Nannytax will continue to actively encourage employers to behave in a tax-abiding manner,” Stuart said. “At the same time, nannies need to take responsibility for themselves and insist that their employers conduct their PAYE appropriately. Employers who do not declare their nannies’ earnings are depriving them of their statutory entitlements,” Stuart added.

One of the ways Nannytax adds extra value is through its dedicated software that allows employers to back-process their payroll. This enables parents to establish what they owe through unpaid taxes going back several years if necessary. Very few companies can do this.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable day, we met many parents and parents to be, as well as child care related business owners from all over the Windsor/Ascot area.

As a member of the ANA we emphasise the importance of always using a reputable nanny agency when looking to recruit a suitable child carer.

ANA: IS… New Start and New Services for ANA Members

The Association of Nanny Agencies (ANA) Heralds Its re-launch by providing its membership with Free Comprehensive Personnel and Employment Law Services from leading HR Provider, Is:Hr Management.

ANA has shown its on-going commitment to its Nanny Agencies by announcing a dedicated re-launch of its services and benefits to members of the organisation.

Leading the way in this rejuvenation process has been ANA’s recent partnership with Is:Hr Management, who are now contracted to provide all ANA members with free comprehensive advice and support on contracts, personnel and employment law issues.

ANA is set to further expand the range of support services that it will be providing to existing, and new, Nanny Agency members over 2012. It is anticipated that membership of ANA is set to double this year as more nanny agencies recognise the need for sector unity, and the collective economic benefits offered by ANA during this tough financial climate.

Angela Spencer, Chair person of ANA said: “We are very pleased that we are able to take on Is:Hr as our support provider for all our ANA agencies. We look forward to working together as a team.”

Michele Payne, Director of Is:Hr Management said: “We are delighted to have been chosen by ANA to provide sector specific HR and Employment Law services to their expanding membership, and we look forward to supporting and assisting Nanny Agencies in this evolving economic and legal climate.”
